Activities Director

REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing

JOB SUMMARY:  

The Activities Director (recreational therapist or therapeutic recreation specialist), oversees the activity department and programs at The Physicians’ Hospital in Anadarko swing bed program. Assesses patients’ needs and strategically develops a program to meet those needs, working with other department managers as necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plans and administers ongoing activities programs. These include both group and individual social activities, outings, spiritual programs and creative, artistic activities. Encourages patient participation in activities and procures the necessary equipment. Position is also responsible for coordinating chaplain and auxiliary programs and provides necessary safe patient transport for swing bed patients this can occur on admission, discharge, and during a patient swing bed admission for outpatient visits to specialists.

QUALITATIVE REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Must have exceptional problem-solving skills. Must be patient, able to maintain your composure within a stressful environment. Must also possess the ability to inspire and motivate others. Interpersonal skills are essential as you will be teaching and training patients of all demographics and with varying degrees of physical and mental fitness.

EDUCATION:

Candidate must possess a certificate for activities and social services director training. If certification has not been received, the candidate will be required to attain within the initial 90 days of employment. Certified Nursing Assistant or other nursing training preferred.
